The Book of Jubilees, also known as 'Little Genesis' or 'Kufale', is a pseudepigraphal text of the Old Testament that rewrites the history of Genesis and part of Exodus, with emphasis on the division of time into jubilees and weeks of years. It is canonical only in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and preserved entirely in Ge'ez. The book was originally written in Hebrew around the 2nd century BC and is cited by the Early Church Fathers.
Jubilees
Chapter 15
In the first year of the fourth week of this jubilee, in the third month, in the middle of the month, Abram celebrated the feast of the first fruits of the grain harvest.
And he offered new offerings upon the altar, the first fruits of the produce, to the Lord, a heifer and a she-goat and a sheep on the altar as a burnt offering to the Lord; his first fruit offerings and his drink offerings he offered upon the altar with incense.
And the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him: "I am God Almighty. Please yourself before Me and become perfect.
And I will make a covenant between Me and you, I will multiply you greatly."
And Abram fell on his face, and God spoke with him and said:
"Behold, My ordinance is with you, and you shall be the father of many nations.
Your name shall no longer be Abram, but your name from now on forever shall be Abraham. Because I have made you the father of many nations.
And I will make you very great, and I will make you into nations, and kings will come from you.
And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you, throughout their generations, an eternal covenant, so that I may be God to you and to your descendants.
And I will give to you and your descendants the land in which you are a stranger, the land of Canaan, that you may possess it forever, and I will be their God."
And the Lord said to Abraham: "And as for you, keep My covenant, you and your descendants: and circumcise every male among you, and circumcise his foreskin, and it shall be a sign of an eternal covenant between Me and you.
And the child on the eighth day you shall circumcise. Every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house or he that is bought from any stranger, which you have acquired who is not of your descendants.
He that is born in your house shall surely be circumcised, and those you buy with money shall be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh as an eternal commandment.
And the uncircumcised male in his flesh, in his foreskin on the eighth day, that person shall be cut off from his people, because he has broken My covenant."
And God said to Abraham: "And as for your wife Sarai, her name shall no longer be Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.
And I will bless her, and give you a son through her, and I will bless him, and he shall become a nation, and kings of nations shall come from him."
And Abraham fell on his face, and rejoiced, and said in his heart: "Shall a child be born through a man who is a hundred years old, and Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?"
And Abraham said to God: "O that Ishmael might live before You!"
And God said: "Yes, and Sarah shall also bear you a son, and you shall call him Isaac, and I will establish My covenant with him, an eternal covenant, and with his descendants after him.
And as for Ishmael, I have heard you concerning him, and behold, I will bless him and make him great, and multiply him exceedingly, and he shall father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.
But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you, at this season, in the next year."
And He finished speaking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
And Abraham did according as God had said to him, and he took Ishmael his son and all that were born in his house, and all that he had bought with money, every male of his house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin.
And on the same day Abraham was circumcised, and every male of his house, and all those whom he had bought with money from the children of strangers were circumcised with him.
This law is for all generations forever, and there is no circumcision of days, and there is no omission of any day outside the eighth day; because it is an eternal commandment, ordained and written on the heavenly tablets.
And everyone who is born, whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised on the eighth day, does not belong to the children of the covenant which God made with Abraham, but to the children of destruction; nor is there, moreover, any sign in him that he belongs to the Lord, but he is destined to be destroyed and killed on the earth, and shall be exterminated from the earth, because he has broken the covenant of the Lord our God.
For all the angels of the presence and all the angels of sanctification are of this nature, from the day of their creation, and in the presence of the angels of the presence and of the angels of sanctification He sanctified Israel, so that they should be with Him and with His holy angels.
And you command the children of Israel so that they observe the signs of this covenant throughout the generations as an eternal ordinance, and they shall not be exterminated from the earth.
For this command is ordained for the covenant, so that they shall observe it forever among all the children of Israel.
For Ishmael and his sons and his brother Esau, the Lord did not cause to approach Him, and He did not choose them because they were sons of Abraham, because He knew them, but He chose Israel to be His people.
And He sanctified it, and took it from among the sons of men; because there are many nations and many peoples, and all are His, and over all He made spirits rule, but Israel He made rule over all.
But for Israel He appointed no angel or spirit, because He alone is their ruler, and He will preserve them and require them from the hands of His angels and His spirits, and from the hands of all His powers, so that He preserves and blesses them, and so that they are His and He is theirs from now and forever.
And now I announce to you that the children of Israel will not keep faithful to this ordinance, and will not circumcise their sons according to this law; because in the flesh of their circumcision they will omit the circumcision of their sons, and all of them, children of Beliar, will leave their sons uncircumcised as they were born.
And they shall be a great cause of wrath of the Lord against the children of Israel because they have abandoned His covenant and turned away from His word, and provoked and blasphemed, just as they did not obey the command of this law; Because they treated their members as the Gentiles, so that they shall be scattered and exterminated from the earth. And there shall be no more remission or forgiveness to them of all the sins of this eternal error.
