The Book of Jubilees, also known as 'Little Genesis' or 'Kufale', is a pseudepigraphal text of the Old Testament that rewrites the history of Genesis and part of Exodus, with emphasis on the division of time into jubilees and weeks of years. It is canonical only in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and preserved entirely in Ge'ez. The book was originally written in Hebrew around the 2nd century BC and is cited by the Early Church Fathers.

Jubilees

Chapter 19

1

And in the first year of the first week in the forty-second jubilee, Abraham returned and dwelt opposite Hebron, which is Kirjath Arba, two weeks of years.

2

And in the first year of the third week of this jubilee the days of Sarah's life were completed, and she died in Hebron.

3

And Abraham went to mourn for her and bury her, and we tested him to see if his spirit was patient and if he was not reluctant in the words of his mouth; And he was found patient in this, and did not become disturbed.

4

Because in patience of spirit he spoke with the sons of Heth, intending that they should give him a place to bury his dead.

5

And the Lord gave him grace before the eyes of those who saw him, and he begged the kindness of the sons of Heth, and they gave him the land of the double cave opposite Moreh, which is Hebron, for four hundred shekels of silver.

6

And they begged him saying: We would give it to you for free, but he would not accept it from our hands for free, therefore he gave the prince of the place the full money, and bowed down before them twice, and after that he buried his dead in the double cave.

7

And all the days of Sarah's life were one hundred and twenty-seven years, which corresponds to two jubilees and four weeks and one year. These were the years of Sarah's life.

8

This was the tenth trial in which Abraham was tried, and he was found faithful, patient in spirit.

9

And he did not say a single word about the promise of the land which God had said He would give to him and his descendants after him, and he had to ask for a place to bury his dead; therefore he was found faithful, and was engraved on the heavenly tablets as a friend of God.

10

And in the fourth year he took a wife for his son Isaac and her name was Rebekah, the sister of Laban and daughter of Bethuel; and Bethuel was the son of Milcah, who was the wife of Nahor, the brother of Abraham.

11

And Abraham took for himself a third wife, and her name was Keturah, from among the daughters of the servants of his household, because Hagar died after Sarah.

12

And she gave birth to six sons, Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah, in the two weeks of years.

13

And in the sixth week, in the second year, Rebekah gave birth to two sons of Isaac, Jacob and Esau. Jacob was gentle and an upright man, and Esau was rough, wild of the fields, and hairy, but Jacob remained in his tent.

14

And the young men grew, and Jacob learned to write; but Esau did not learn, because he was a man of the field and a hunter, and he learned war, and all his works were fierce.

15

And Abraham loved Jacob, but Isaac loved Esau.

16

And Abraham saw the works of Esau, and he knew that in Jacob should be called his name and that of his descendants; and he spoke with Rebekah and gave her orders concerning Jacob, because he knew that she also loved Jacob much more than Esau.

17

And he said to her: My daughter, take care of my son Jacob, because he shall remain in my place upon the earth, and for a blessing among the sons of men, for the glory of all the descendants of Shem.

18

For I know that the Lord will choose him to be a people of His own possession, above all the peoples that exist upon the face of the earth.

19

And behold, my son Isaac loves Esau more than Jacob, but I see that you truly love Jacob.

20

Add yet more of your benevolence toward him, and let your eyes be upon him in love; Because he shall be a blessing to us on the earth now and throughout all the generations of the earth.

21

And let your hands be strong and your heart rejoice in your son Jacob; because I have loved him much more than all my sons. He shall be blessed forever and his descendants shall fill all the earth.

22

If a man can count the dust of the earth, then his descendants also could be counted.

23

And all the blessings with which the Lord has blessed me and my descendants belong to Jacob and his descendants forever.

24

And in his descendants shall my name be blessed, and the name of my fathers, Shem, Noah, Enoch, Mahalalel, Enos, Seth and Adam.

25

And they shall be called to lay the foundations of heaven, and to strengthen the earth, and to renew the luminaries that are in the firmament.

26

And he called Jacob before the eyes of Rebekah his mother and kissed him and blessed him, and said:

27

"Jacob, my beloved son, whom my soul loves, may God bless you from above the firmament and may He give you all the blessings with which He blessed Adam, Enoch, Noah and Shem; and all the things He told me, and all the things He promised to give me, may He allow to remain with you and with your descendants forever, according to the days of heaven upon earth.

28

And the spirits of Mastema shall not rule over you or over your descendants to lead you astray from the Lord, who is your God from now and forever.

29

And may the Lord God be a father to you, and you be to Him the firstborn, and to the people always. Go in peace, my son."

30

And both went out from the presence of Abraham.

31

And Rebekah loved Jacob with all her heart and with all her soul, much more than Esau; But Isaac loved Esau much more than Jacob.
