Jubilees

Chapter 2

1

And the angel of the presence spoke to Moses according to the word of the Lord, saying: Write the complete history of creation, how in six days the Lord God completed all His work and everything He created, and kept the Sabbath on the seventh day and sanctified it for all ages, and appointed it as a sign for all His work.

2

For on the first day He created the heaven which is above and the earth and the waters and all the spirits that serve Him - The angels of the presence, the angels of sanctification, the angels of the spirit of the winds, the angels of the spirit of the clouds, and of darkness, and of snow, and of hail and of frost, and the angels of the voices and of the thunders and of the lightnings, and the angels of the spirits of cold and heat, and of winter and spring and autumn and summer, and all the spirits of His creatures which are in heaven and on earth and in the depths of the abyss, and the darkness. And all the spirits of darkness and of night. The light and the dawn of morning and the day. All these He made with the knowledge of His heart.

3

And thus we see His works, and we worship Him, and we exalt before Him because of all His work, for seven great works He made on the first day.

4

And on the second day He created the firmament in the midst of the waters, and the waters were divided on that day. Half of them went up above and half went down below the firmament upon the face of all the earth. And this was the only work He created on the second day.

5

And on the third day He commanded the waters to pass from the face of all the earth to one place, so that dry land might appear.

6

And the waters did as He commanded them, and they withdrew from all the face of the earth to occupy only one place outside the firmament, and dry land appeared.

7

And on that day He created for them all the seas according to their separate places, and all the rivers, and the gathering of the waters in the mountains and throughout all the earth, and all the lakes, and all the dew of the earth, and the seed that is sown, and all things that sprout there, and fruit trees, and forest trees, and the garden of Eden, for dwelling in Eden, and all plants according to their species. These four great works God created on the third day.

8

And on the fourth day He created the sun and the moon and the stars, and placed them in the firmament of heaven, to give light upon all the earth, and to rule the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness.

9

And God appointed the sun to be a great sign on the earth for days and for sabbaths and for months and for feasts and for years and for sabbaths of years and for jubilees and for all the seasons of the years.

10

And He divided the light from the darkness for prosperity. So that all things might, because of Him, prosper, sprout and grow on the earth. These three kinds He made on the fourth day.

11

On the fifth day He created great sea monsters in the depths of the waters, for these were the first creatures of flesh that were created by His hands, the fish and everything that moves in the waters and everything that flies, the birds of all kinds.

12

And the sun rose above them to prosper them, and over everything that was on the earth, everything that sprouts on the earth, and all fruit trees, and all flesh. These three kinds of things He created on the fifth day.

13

And on the sixth day He created the wild animals, and all the domestic animals, and everything that moves on the earth.

14

And after all this He created people. He created a man and a woman and gave them dominion over everything on the earth, and in the seas, and over everything that flies, and over the wild animals and over the domestic animals, and over everything that moves on the earth, and over all the earth, and over all this He gave them dominion. And these four kinds of things He created on the sixth day.

15

And they were in total twenty-two kinds.

16

And He finished all His work on the sixth day. - Everything in heaven and on earth, and in the seas and in the abyss, and in light and in darkness, and in everything.

17

And He gave us a great sign, the Sabbath day, so that we should work six days, but keep the Sabbath on the seventh day from all work.

18

And all the angels of the presence, and all the angels of sanctification, these two great families - He asked us to keep the Sabbath with Him in heaven and on earth.

19

And he said to us: "Behold, I will separate for Myself a people from among all the peoples, and these shall keep the Sabbath day, and they shall be My holy people, and I will bless them because I sanctified the Sabbath day. As I sanctified the Sabbath, I sanctified for Myself this people, that I may bless them, and they shall be My people and I will be their God.

20

I chose the descendants of Jacob from among all that I have seen, and wrote him as My firstborn son, and sanctified them for Myself throughout eternity; and I will teach them the Sabbath day, so that they may keep the Sabbath from all work."

21

And then He created a sign that agrees with keeping the Sabbath with us on the seventh day, to eat and drink, and to bless God who created all things, just as He blessed and sanctified for Himself a particular people above all people, and that they should keep the Sabbath with us.

22

And He made His commandments ascend as a sweet acceptable aroma before Him all the days...

23

There were twenty-two heads of humanity from Adam to Jacob, and twenty-two kinds of works were performed until the seventh day; this is blessed and holy; and the first also is blessed and holy; and this serves with that for sanctification and blessing.

24

And to these it was guaranteed that they should always be the blessed and holy of the first testimony and law, just as He had sanctified and blessed the Sabbath day on the seventh day.

25

He created heaven and earth and everything He created in six days, and God made the seventh day holy for all His work, therefore He commanded that whoever does any work on this day shall die, and that whoever defiles it shall surely die.

26

Therefore command the children of Israel to observe this day which they must keep holy and not do any work on it, and not defile it, because this day is holier than all other days.

27

And whoever profanes it shall surely die, and whoever does any work on it shall die for eternity. Let the children of Israel observe this day throughout their generations, and not be uprooted from the land, because this day is holy and blessed.

28

And everyone who observes and keeps the Sabbath from all his work shall be holy and blessed for all days as we are.

29

Know and tell the children of Israel the Law of this day: That they should keep the Sabbath and that they should not pervert their hearts, and that it is not permitted to do any improper work, to work for their own pleasure, and that they should not prepare anything to eat or drink, nor draw water, nor enter or carry any merchandise through their gates which they have not prepared for themselves on the sixth day in their dwellings.

30

And they should not bring nor carry from house to house on that day; because this day is holier and more blessed than any day of jubilee of jubilees; because of this we keep the Sabbath in heaven before it was made known to any flesh to keep the Sabbath on earth.

31

And the Creator of all things blessed it, but He did not sanctify all peoples and nations to keep the Sabbath, but only Israel: To them only He allowed to eat and drink and keep the Sabbath on earth.

32

And the Creator of all things blessed this day which He had created for blessing and holiness and glory above every day.

33

This Law and testimony was given to the children of Israel as an eternal Law for their generations.
