Jubilees

Chapter 25

1

And in the second year of this week of this jubilee, Rebekah called Jacob, her son, and spoke to him, saying: "My son, do not take for yourself a wife from the daughters of Canaan, like Esau, your brother, who took for himself two wives from the daughters of Canaan, and they have embittered my soul with all their unclean works. Because all their works are fornication and lust, and there is no righteousness in them because they are evil.

2

And I, my son, love you very much, and my heart and my affection bless you every hour of the day and watch of the night.

3

And now, my son, listen to my voice, and do the will of your mother. Do not take for yourself a wife from the daughters of this land, but only from the house of my father, and from the relatives of my father. You shall take for yourself a wife from the house of my father, and the Most High God will bless you, and your sons will be a generous nation and a holy descendant."

4

And then Jacob spoke to Rebekah, his mother, and said to her: "Behold, mother, I am nine weeks of years old, and I have never known nor even touched any woman, nor betrothed myself to any, nor do I even think of taking for myself a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

5

For I remember, mother, the words of Abraham, our father, because he commanded me not to take a wife from the daughters of Canaan, but to take for myself a wife from the descendants of the house of my father and from my kindred.

6

I heard that daughters were born to Laban, your brother, and I have prepared my heart for them to take a wife from among them.

7

And for this reason I have guarded myself in my spirit so as not to sin nor to corrupt myself in all my ways all the days of my life; Because concerning lust and fornication Abraham, my father, commanded me.

8

And despite everything he commanded me, these twenty-two years my brother has fought with me and often said to me: "My brother, take as a wife one of the sisters of my two wives." But I refuse to do as he did.

9

I swear before you, mother, that all the days of my life I will not take a wife from the daughters of the descendants of Canaan, and I will not act wickedly as my brother did.

10

Fear not, mother, be assured that I will do your will and walk in uprightness, and I will not corrupt my ways forever."

11

Then she lifted up her hands to heaven and stretched out her fingers, and opened her mouth and blessed the Most High God, who created heaven and earth, and she gave Him thanks and praise.

12

And she said: "Blessed be the Lord God, and may His holy name be blessed forever and ever, who gave me Jacob as a pure son and holy descendant; because he is Yours, and Yours shall be his descendants continually and throughout all generations forever.

13

Bless him, O Lord, and put in my mouth the blessings of righteousness, that I may bless him."

14

And at that hour, when the spirit of righteousness descended into her mouth, she placed both her hands on Jacob's head and said:

15

"Blessed are you, O Lord of righteousness and God of the ages. May He bless you above all the generations of men. May He give you, my son, the way of righteousness, and reveal righteousness to your descendants.

16

And may He make your sons many during your life, and may they arise according to the months of the year. And may their sons become many and far beyond the stars of heaven, and may their number be greater than the sand of the sea.

17

And may He give you this good land as He said He would give it to Abraham and his descendants after him forever. And may they keep it as a possession forever.

18

And may I see born of you, my son, children during my life. And may a blessed and holy descendant be all your descendants.

19

And because you have refreshed the spirit of your mother during her life, the belly of her who gave you birth blesses you, and my breasts bless you, and my mouth and my tongue praise you greatly.

20

Increase and spread over the earth, and may your descendants be perfect in the joy of heaven and earth forever; And may your descendants rejoice, and may they have peace on the great day of peace.

21

And may your name and the name of your descendants last forever, and may the Most High God be their God, and may the God of Justice dwell with them, and may their sanctuary be built for all ages.

22

Blessed be he who blesses you, and cursed be all flesh that falsely curses you."

23

And she kissed him and said to him: "May the Lord of the World love you as the heart of your mother and His affection rejoice in you and bless you." And she ended the blessings.
