Jubilees

Chapter 32

1

And he stayed that night in Bethel, and Levi dreamed that they had ordained him and made him a priest of the Most High God, he and his sons forever. And he awoke from his sleep and blessed the Lord.

2

And Jacob rose early in the morning, on the fourteenth of this month, and gave a tenth of everything that came with him, both of men and of cattle, of gold and of every vessel and garments, yes, he gave a tenth of everything.

3

And in those days Rachel became pregnant with her son Benjamin. And Jacob counted his sons from the youngest to the eldest, and Levi fell to the Lord's portion, and his father sewed him priestly garments and filled his hands.

4

And on the fifteenth day of this month he brought to the altar fourteen bullocks from among the cattle, and twenty-eight rams, and forty-nine sheep, and seven lambs, and twenty-one kids for the burnt offering on the altar of sacrifice, very pleasing for a sweet aroma before God.

5

This was his offering, in consequence of the vow he had made that he would give the tithe, with his fruit offerings and his drink offerings.

6

And when the fire had consumed it, he burned incense on the fire upon the fire, and for a thank offering two bullocks and four sheep and four rams, four he-goats and two lambs of one year old, and two kids, and thus he did daily for seven days.

7

And he and all his sons and his men were eating with joy there for seven days, and blessing and thanking the Lord who delivered them from tribulation and gave him his vow.

8

And he tithed all the clean animals, and made a burnt offering, but the unclean animals he did not give to Levi, his son, and he gave them all the souls of the men.

9

And Levi began the priestly office in Bethel before his father Jacob to the detriment of his ten brothers, and he was a priest there, and Jacob paid his vow. Then he tithed again from the tithed to the Lord and sanctified it, and it became holy to him.

10

And for this reason it is ordained on the heavenly tablets as a Law to tithe again the tithed to eat before the Lord year by year, in the place chosen for His name to dwell. And for this law there is no limit of days forever.

11

This ordinance is written to be fulfilled year by year in eating the second tithe before the Lord in the chosen place, and nothing shall remain from this year to the next year.

12

For in this year the seed shall be eaten until the days of the harvest of the seeds of the year, and the wine until the days of the wine, and the oil until the days of its season.

13

And whatever remains and becomes old shall be considered polluted and shall be burned in the fire because it is unclean.

14

And then let them eat together in the sanctuary, and let it not be left to become old.

15

And all the tithes of the bullocks and of the sheep shall be holy to the Lord, and shall belong to His priests, that they may eat before Him year by year; for thus it was ordained and engraved concerning the tithe on the heavenly tablets.

16

And on the next night, on the twenty-second day of this month, Jacob decides to build that place, and enclose the courtyard with a wall, and sanctify it and make it holy forever, for himself and for his sons after him.

17

And the Lord appeared during the night and blessed him and said to him: "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel they shall call your name."

18

And He said to him again: "I am the God who created heaven and earth. I will increase you and multiply you exceedingly, and kings will come from you, and they will judge every place where the feet of your sons tread.

19

And I will give to your descendants all the land that is under heaven, and they shall judge the nations according to their desire, and after that they shall take possession of all the land and inherit it forever."

20

And He finished speaking with him, and He went up from him. And Jacob looked until He had ascended to heaven.

21

And he saw in a vision of the night, and behold, an angel descending from heaven with seven tablets in his hands, and he gave them to Jacob, and he read them and knew everything written on them that would happen to him and his sons throughout all generations.

22

And he showed him everything written on the tablets, and said to him: "Do not build this place, and do not make it an eternal sanctuary, and do not dwell here, because this is not the place. Go to the house of Abraham, your father, and dwell with Isaac, your father, until the day of your father's death.

23

For in Egypt you shall die in peace, and in this land you shall be buried with honor in the tomb of your fathers, with Abraham and Isaac.

24

Do not fear because you have seen and read this, so all this shall be; and you write everything as you have seen and read."

25

And Jacob said: "Lord, how can I remember everything I have read and seen?" And He said to him: "I will bring all things to your remembrance."

26

And He went up from him, and he awoke from his sleep, and he remembered everything he had read and seen, and he wrote all the words he had read and seen.

27

And he celebrated there yet another day, and he sacrificed again according to everything he had sacrificed on the previous days, and called it by the name: "Addition." Because this day was added, and to the previous days he called "The Festival".

28

And thus it is manifest that it should be, and it is written on the heavenly tablets: Because it was revealed to him that he should celebrate, and add to the seven days of the festival.

29

And the name of this day was called "Addition", because this was engraved among the feast days, according to the number of the days of the year.

30

And during the night, on the twenty-third of this month, Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and they buried her under the city under the oak of the river, and he called that place "The River of Deborah" and the oak "The Oak of mourning for Deborah".

31

And Rebekah went and returned to the house of her father Isaac, and Jacob sent for her rams and sheep and goats that she might prepare a meal for her father as he wished.

32

And he went after his mother until he came to the land of Kabratan, and dwelt there.

33

And Rachel gave birth to a son during the night, and called him by the name of "Son of my sorrow"; because she suffered in giving birth, but his father called him by the name of Benjamin, on the eleventh day of the eighth month, on the first day of the sixth week of this jubilee.

34

And Rachel died there and was buried in the land of Ephrath, which is Bethlehem, and Jacob set up a pillar at Rachel's tomb, on the road over her tomb.
