The Book of Jubilees, also known as 'Little Genesis' or 'Kufale', is a pseudepigraphal text of the Old Testament that rewrites the history of Genesis and part of Exodus, with emphasis on the division of time into jubilees and weeks of years. It is canonical only in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and preserved entirely in Ge'ez. The book was originally written in Hebrew around the 2nd century BC and is cited by the Early Church Fathers.

Jubilees

Chapter 4

1

In the third week in the second jubilee she gave birth to Cain, and in the fourth she gave birth to Abel, and in the fifth she gave birth to her daughter Awan.

2

And in the first year of the third jubilee, Cain killed Abel because he accepted Abel's sacrifice and did not accept Cain's offering.

3

And he killed him in the field, and his blood cried out from the ground to heaven, complaining because he had killed him.

4

And the Lord rebuked Cain because of Abel, because he had killed him, and He made him a fugitive on the earth because of the blood of his brother, and He cursed him upon the earth.

5

And because of this it is written on the heavenly tablets, "Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor treacherously, and let all who saw and heard say: It is done! And whoever sees and does not say: It is done! let him be cursed as the precedent".

6

And for this reason we announce when we approach the Lord God all the sins that are committed in heaven and on earth, in light and in darkness, and in every place.

7

And Adam and his wife mourned for Abel four weeks of years, and in the fourth year of the fifth week they rejoiced, and Adam knew his wife again, and she gave birth to a son, and he called his name Seth; for he said: "God has raised up another descendant for us on the earth in place of Abel, because Cain killed him."

8

And in the sixth week he fathered his daughter Azura.

9

And Cain took Awan his sister as his wife and she bore him Enoch at the end of the fourth jubilee. And in the first year of the first week of the fifth jubilee, houses were built upon the earth, and Cain built a city and called it by the name of his son Enoch.

10

And Adam lived with Eve his wife and she bore nine sons.

11

And in the fifth week of the fifth jubilee, Seth took Azura his sister to be his wife, and in the fourth year of the sixth week she bore Enos.

12

He began to call upon the name of the Lord on the earth.

13

And in the seventh jubilee, in the third week, Enos took Noam his sister to be his wife, and she bore a son in the third year of the fifth week, and he called his name Cainan.

14

And at the end of the eighth jubilee, Cainan took Mualeleth his sister to be his wife, and she bore a son in the ninth jubilee, in the first week, in the third year of the week, and he called him by the name of Mahalalel.

15

And in the second week of the tenth jubilee, Mahalalel took to himself as a wife Dinah, the daughter of Barakiel, the daughter of his father's brother, and she bore a son in the third week in the sixth year, and he called him by the name of Jared, because in his days the angels of the Lord descended to the earth, those who are called Watchers, who should teach the sons of men and should execute judgment and justice on the earth.

16

And in the eleventh jubilee, Jared took to himself a wife. Her name was Barakah, the daughter of Rasujal, a daughter of his father's brother, in the fourth week of this jubilee, and she bore a son in the fifth week, in the fourth year of the jubilee, and he called him Enoch.

17

And he was the first among men born on earth who learned writing and knowledge and wisdom and who wrote the signs of heaven according to the order of their months in a book, so that men might know the seasons of the years according to the order of their months separately.

18

And he was the first to write a testimony, and he testified to the sons of men throughout the generations of the earth, and recounted the weeks of jubilees, and made known to them the days of the year, and put in order the months and recounted the Sabbaths of the years as we made them known to him.

19

And what was and what shall be he saw in a vision of his sleep, as it shall happen to the sons of men throughout their generations until the day of judgment; he saw and understood everything, and wrote this testimony, and placed the testimony on the earth for all the sons of men and for their generations.

20

And in the twelfth jubilee, in the second week, he took to himself a wife, and her name was Edna, the daughter of Danel, the daughter of his father's brother, and in the sixth year of this week she bore him a son and he called him by the name of Methuselah.

21

And he was with the angels of God these six weeks of years, and they showed him everything on the earth and in heaven, the rule of the sun, and he wrote everything.

22

And he testified against the Watchers who had sinned with the daughters of men; because this had begun to unite them, so as to defile themselves with the daughters of men. And Enoch testified against them all.

23

And he was taken from among the sons of men, and we led him into the garden of Eden in majesty and honor, and behold, he writes the condemnation and judgment of the world, and all the wickedness of the sons of men.

24

And therefore God brought the waters of the flood upon all the earth; because a sign had been set that he should testify against all the sons of men, that he should recount all the deeds of the generations until the day of condemnation.

25

And he brought into the house of the Sanctuary an offering of incense, which was accepted before God on Mount of the South.

26

For the Lord has four places on the earth: The garden of Eden, and the Mount of the East, and this mountain on which you are this day, Mount Sinai, Mount Zion which shall be sanctified in the new creation for a sanctification on the earth; through this the earth shall be sanctified from all its guilt and its uncleanness throughout the generations of the world.

27

And in the fourteenth jubilee, Methuselah took to himself a wife, Ednah, the daughter of Azrial, the daughter of his father's brother, in this third week, in the first year of the week, and he fathered a son and called him by the name of Lamech.

28

And in the fifteenth jubilee, in the third week, Lamech took to himself a wife, and her name was Betenos the daughter of Barakiil, the daughter of his father's brother, and in this week she bore him a son whom he called Noah, saying: "This one will comfort me from my troubles and from all my work, and from the ground which the Lord has cursed."

29

And at the end of the nineteenth jubilee, in the seventh week in the sixth year, Adam died. And all his sons buried him in the land of his creation, and he was the first to be buried in the earth.

30

And he lacked seventy years of a thousand years; for a thousand years are as one day in the testimony of heaven, and therefore it is written concerning the tree of knowledge: "On the day you eat you shall die." For this reason he did not complete the years of his day; for he died during it.

31

At the end of this jubilee, Cain was killed after him in the same year; for his house fell upon him, and he died in the midst of his house, and he was killed by stones; for with a stone he had killed Abel, and by a stone he was killed in righteous judgment.

32

For this reason it was ordained on the heavenly tablets: "With the instrument with which a man killed his neighbor, with the same he shall be killed; As he wounded, so shall it be done to him."

33

And in the twenty-fifth jubilee, Noah took to himself a wife, and her name was Emzara, the daughter of Rakeel, the daughter of his father's brother, in the first year in the fifth week: and in the third year she gave birth to Shem, in the fifth year she gave birth to Ham, and in the first year of the sixth week she gave birth to Japheth.
