The Book of Jubilees, also known as 'Little Genesis' or 'Kufale', is a pseudepigraphal text of the Old Testament that rewrites the history of Genesis and part of Exodus, with emphasis on the division of time into jubilees and weeks of years. It is canonical only in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and preserved entirely in Ge'ez. The book was originally written in Hebrew around the 2nd century BC and is cited by the Early Church Fathers.
Jubilees
Chapter 8
In the twenty-ninth jubilee, at the beginning of the first week, Arpachshad took to himself a wife and her name was Rasueja, the daughter of Susan, the daughter of Elam, and she bore a son in the third year of this week, and he called him Cainan.
And the son grew, and his father taught him to write, and he went to seek for himself a place where he could build for himself a city.
And he found an inscription which former generations had carved on rock, and he read and transcribed them. And he sinned because of this, for they contained the teachings of the Watchers by which they used to observe the omens of the sun, moon and stars in all the heavenly signs.
And he wrote it down and told nothing about it; because he feared to tell Noah, and that he would be angry with him because of it.
And in the thirty-third jubilee, in the second week, in the first year, he took to himself a wife and her name was Melka, the daughter of Madai, son of Japheth, and in the fourth year he fathered a son, and called him by the name of Shelah; because he said: "Truly I have been sent."
And in the fourth year he was born, and Shelah grew and took to himself a wife, and her name was Muak, the daughter of Kesed, his father's brother, in the thirty-first jubilee, in the fifth week, in the first year.
And she bore a son in the fifth year and he called him by the name of Eber: and he took to himself a wife, and her name was Azurad, the daughter of Nebrod, in the thirty-second jubilee, in the seventh week, in the third year.
And in the sixth year she bore a son, and he was called by the name of Peleg; because in the days when he was born the sons of Noah began to divide the earth among themselves: for this reason he called him Peleg.
And they divided the earth among themselves, and Noah said:
"It is already the beginning of the thirty-third jubilee. Divide the land into three parts. For Shem, Ham and Japheth according to their inheritance." Then on the first day of the first week of years, when one of us who had been sent was with them.
And he called his sons, and they approached, they and their sons, and he divided the land by lot, which his three sons should take possession of, and they stretched out their hands and took a writing from the bosom of Noah, their father.
And it came to pass that the lot for Shem was the portion in the middle of the earth which he should take as inheritance for himself and his sons throughout the generations eternally, from the middle of the mountain range of Mount Rafa, from the mouths of the waters of the river Tina, and his portion goes to the west through the middle of this river, and extends until it reaches the waters of the abyss, to which this river flows and pours its waters into the Sea of Meat, and this river flows to the great sea. And everything to the north is the land of Japheth, and everything to the south belongs to Shem.
And it extends until it reaches Caraso: This is at the base of the tongue which points to the south.
And his portion extends along the great sea and extends in a straight line until it reaches the west of the tongue which points to the south: Because this sea is called the tongue of the Egyptian sea.
And it comes from here to the south by the mouth of the great sea on the coast of its waters and extends west to Afra, and extends until it reaches the waters of the river Gihon, and to the south of the waters of Gihon, to the banks of that river.
And it extends east until it reaches the garden of Eden, to the south, and to the east of all the land of Eden and of all the east, and turns east and proceeds until it reaches the east of Mount Rafa, and goes down to the banks of the mouth of the river Tina.
This portion came out by lot for Shem and his sons, that they should possess forever throughout the generations.
And Noah rejoiced because his portion was allotted to Shem and his sons, and he reminded them of everything he had spoken from his mouth in prophecy; because he had said: "Blessed be the Lord God of Shem and may the Lord dwell in the dwelling of Shem."
And he knew that the garden of Eden is the holy of holies, and the dwelling of the Lord, and Mount Sinai the center of the desert, and Mount Zion the center of the navel of the earth: These three were created as holy places facing one another.
And he blessed the God of gods, who had placed the words of the Lord in his mouth, and the Lord forever.
And he knew that a blessed portion and a blessing had come to Shem and his sons throughout the generations forever. All the land of Eden, and all the land of the Red Sea, and all the land of the east and India, and in the Red Sea and the mountains, and all the land of Bashan, and all the land of Lebanon and the islands of Caphtor, and all the mountains of Sanir and Amana, and the mountains of Asshur to the north, and all the land of Elam, Asshur and Babel, and Susa and Media, and all the mountains of Ararat, and all the region beyond the sea, which is beyond the mountains of Asshur to the north, a blessed and spacious land, and everything within it is very good.
And for Ham the second portion was allotted, beyond Gihon to the south to the right of the garden, and extends to the south and extends through all the mountains of fire, and extends to the west to the Sea of Atel and extends east until it reaches the Sea of Mauk, that sea into which everything that is not destroyed sinks.
And it goes north to the borders of Gadir, and goes along the coast of the waters of the sea to the waters of the great sea until it sinks near the river Gihon, and approaches the river Gihon, and goes along the river Gihon until it reaches the garden of Eden.
And this is the land allotted to Ham as a portion which he should occupy forever for himself and his sons throughout the generations forever.
And for Japheth the portion was allotted beyond the river Tina to the north of the outflow of its waters, and extends northeast through all the region of Gog, and to all the interior to the east.
And it extends north to the north, and extends to the mountains of Qelt to the north, and towards the Sea of Mauk, and goes to the east of Gadir as far as the regions of the waters of the sea.
And it extends until it approaches the west of Phara and returns towards Apherag, and extends east to the waters of the Sea of Meat.
And it extends to the region of the river Tina to the northwest until it approaches the border of its waters towards Mount Rafa, and turns north towards north.
This is the land that was allotted to Japheth and his sons as the portion of their inheritance which he shall possess for himself and his sons, throughout their generations forever; five great islands and a great land to the north.
But it is cold, and the land of Ham is hot, and the land of Shem is neither hot nor cold, but is of a balanced cold and heat.
